The OP found a location which has so little light pollution that a shot this close to the horizon works.Ī few years ago I was in Kruger National Park in South Africa, when I saw the Milky Way all the way to the horizon. This gives the foreground trees a little motion blur. I use it with a D3200 at iso1600 and a sequence of 9 images (using the internal self-timer) x 10 seconds exposure. The 18mm f/3.5 kit lens is actually surprisingly good at f/3.5. Nice! Did you use your kit lens? If so you can get a fast prime like the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 and you won't have to crank up the ISO so high.
